Is the Post-Recession Economy the real reason you are a Cave Dweller?

In this economy, it is pretty normal to experience fear and trepidation about the current state of business and the future prospects for your business. However, it is critical to stay focused on the opportunities and not the circumstances, but to be as Stephen Covey says in the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Habit #1, be proactive.

Just like the cave dwellers of old, who focused on what the most important things were, the business owners of today must focus on the most important things of the day. The Cave Dwellers had to focus on getting food and making sure they were warm and had firewood. Not until they had enough food did they resign to the cave for its warmth and protection.

The business owners of today must focus on having enough cash to pay the bills, generate new business, produce a product, good or service that is excellent in terms of customer satisfaction, and not until those processes are producing regular business growth can they allow for the distractions that can delay your business prosperity.

As a business owner, are you focused on the most important things of the day? Are you focused on generating new business, serving your existing customers and clients with excellent or better service? Does your business reflect “Priority Management?” We define priority management as focusing on the most important things. When we successfully focus on the most important things, we will always produce the right kind of activity, the right kind of conversations and eventually, the right kinds of results.

A couple of right activities are to get out in the business community and create visibility for your company and its products, goods and services. Not so much by selling, but by demonstrating the level of expertise you have in your industry. This means going to trade shows, networking events, speaking at association meetings, blogging, or other forms of social media.

So, unless your business is as prosperous as it can be, don’t be a Cave Dweller, get out of the cave and do something!
